I finally did it!!! I dyed my hair for the very first time! I’m officially part of this club many women are already a part of. It’s definitely something I always wanted to try but I knew there would be many things I had to take in consideration before crossing over to the other side. Timing is everything and I always for some odd reason wanted to keep my natural black hair until I turned 30. And the time is here… I’ve decided to enter a new decade in my life with brown hair. Besides deciding on the perfect hair color, the hair salon had to be the perfect place for me, too! Because we all know beautiful hair doesn’t just happen, the coloring and styling has to be executed by a professional. I’m so happy I went to Tina Pearson’s salon located in Edgewater, NJ. Tina Pearson and her team operate around the concept of keeping beautiful healthy hair even when going through the process of dying it. We started off by discussing the products she uses at her salon, and for the color I had in mind, she opted to use Matrixx ColorInsider – no-amonia, permanent hair color. After consulting with Celebrity Hair Stylist-Tina, she then created the perfect concoction to obtain the perfect formula to accomplish a light brown. I mentioned I would prefer to avoid any yellows or reds but it’s important to know that sometimes it’s inevitable in the early stages of transitioning to colored hair. Somehow she nailed it even on my virgin hair and all I see is brown. I decided to start with baby steps and did a single process with no highlights. In the future, once I commit my self to spending a little extra and more time, I will start venturing into a look that may require more maintenance.
I spent a couple of hours at Tina’s salon that day and the vibe was so chill. They played neo-soul, R&B and my favorite old school hip hop in between color-application and washing my hair. I have to say that the shampoo experience is one of a kind leaving your hair and scalp squeaky clean. It’s takes a little longer than usual since its more than just shampoo and conditioner but it’s so worth it. After dying, cutting and styling was done there was no surprise learning that Tina Pearson has been in business for 20 years now. Starting at her previous location in the Upper East Side to her latest location in Edgewater , NJ where she also provides other great services like extensions and relaxers. More information: here
I can already see how coloring your hair could be addicting but again I would recommend starting off with a subtle transformation. I was thrilled to walk out of her salon feeling great about my new hair color! See how shiny my hair looks and how lovely were the loose curls Tina gave me, below. I look forward to visiting her salon for a re-touch and for my regular blowouts soon!
I will also follow-up with a post on how I will maintain my hair going forward, after dying it! Let’s see how fast my roots grow out and what I decide to try next!
