I recently started listening to ‘UNSTYLED’.  A podcast hosted by co-founder and editor in chief at Refinery 29, Christene Barberich.  A podcast that covers life, work and love as told through the things we wear.  I have to say I’m hooked. I love all the stories they’ve shared and to be honest I’ve always secretly been a huge fan of Christene Barberich.  I’ve met her several times and we exchanged a few words and she is such a sweet heart. I admire her ‘women boss’ demeanor (because she is a boss), all her accomplishments and her amazing sense of style while staying down to earth.

An episode that I really enjoyed is when CB interviews Leandra Medine from ManRepellar on UnStyled.  Towards the end of the episode there is something Leandra mentions that resonated with me the most. It’s her answer on how to use clothing as a tool when someone is going through a big change in their life… Her response:

“As a tool for growth, take the time to think about the woman you want to be. I’m not going to say dress for the woman you want to be.  Take the time to think about when you feel like the best version of yourself ? Try to metabolize what it is you are wearing when you feel like that person and PUT THOSE FUCKING CLOTHES ON and don’t take them off until you can do it naked… meaning be happy!” -Leandra Medine

This resonated with me so much because it is something that I truly believe in. I found a shop online, where each piece allows me to venture into a new version of myself.  This patches bomber jacket by ‘God Can’t Destroy Streetwear’ is just one of the pieces they carry over at ‘Secret Location’.  GCDS eccentric pieces feature bold graphic. colors and patch work. All inspired by street art and urban lifestyle, designed and made in Milan. More from GCDS’ collections: here

I paired this white bomber with a sheer midi tank dress and a pearl choker necklace from ASOS x Wah London.  Thank you mom for always pulling these pearl chokers when I was a little girl.  I looked up to you for making it look so effortless. I have to admit, I temporarily went insane trying to find a similar choker and I’m happy I finally found one over at ASOS.

Lastly, I also paired this jacket with a pair of relaxed fit denim pants. They have wide cuffs sewed in the bottom with visible red stitching. These pants are from Zara and you still have a chance to buy them: here

I love to play around with styles but I honestly have to say all this patchwork and just this ensemble as a whole had me feeling like the best version of myself when walking the streets of Nolita, NY. Thank you Secret Location! These 70s inspired retro aviators had a lot to do with it, too.

One last thing, promise. Another ‘UnStyled’ episode I also enjoyed is when CB interviewed Ashley Graham. I was already obsessed with Ashley Graham and what she represents but after listening to this episode, I love her even more. She is just so real and funny and she is revolutionizing the female form. Make sure you check this podcast out when you can!
